Researchers investigate piezoelectric, electro-spun nanofibers for controlled drug release

Published in ACS Applied Bio Materials, researchers have explored the use of a mechano-responsive, piezoelectric material, formed of electro-spun nanofibers, as a vehicle for on-demand drug delivery. Many existing controlled-release drug delivery methods involve encapsulating drug particles within a biodegradable vehicle that slowly dissolves within the body over a period of time. However, such methods may not allow for the controlled release of drugs according to a specific schedule.
